This worker's food co-op made me cry…

I think it’s just because of the simplicity of it.

The clarity.

The way they embody their principles – and because of all that, how rare they are ..

Tonight we're visiting Organic Lea Workers Coop.

They have really helped us to shape the entire trajectory of this project.

When we first contacted two of our friends about the coop they work in appearing on our Greenback banknotes, they told us they would have to vote on it with all the members.

As a couple of artists, we're using to literally voting on almost nothing. So this was... definitely different..

We had originally thought we’d put one or perhaps two of the founders on the Greenbacks .. time passed while we were awaiting the outcome of the vote – and when they came back to us, they told us that they would much prefer it if we just put them all on there.

Or at least - as many of them who wanted to.. (and there are a lot of them!)

But the thing we didn't expect, when we went there was to find ourselves hearing these types of phrases..

“This is our corner of the earth – we’re trying to save it but it’s an uphill struggle..”

“What matters is being part of a solution.”

As a filmmaker, this sort of decentralised storytelling freaks me out, but Hilary knew we could make it work.

So the next step for turning them into banknotes was to photograph them, and to interview them for the film..

This is one of the AR banknotes - which triggers off a pretty intense experience on your device - it also has UV elements.

Our mission then: to visit the co-op..

To be honest, we were blown away.

It was something in the quiet dignity of the people there.

It felt that we were witnessing something important.

There was a sense of determination and solidarity wherever we looked.

We heard lines like:

“Being here brings me hope.”

“If people ask me how I am when I’m here, they really mean it.”

“I just like being here. It’s like walking in paradise.”

“An enclave of peace”

“It gives me hope.”

“This is what I was looking for. This is what I believe in.”

“The only way is for people to work together and figure out what they can do.”

Watching it back – in order to prep it for tonight’s launch brought a tear to my eye. It was just really moving.

Remember – new paid members have got a call-out at the end of tonight’s episode.

If you’d like to join the paid membership to get hold of these beautiful Greenbacks – and be in next weekend’s call out, click below or shop direct on our website for them..

Happy weekend!
