power station hq
update! - after raising £120,000 IN JUST 2 WEEKS THE BUILDING WAS SOLD TO SOMEONE ELSE SO THE community share offer to secure a building on this street WAS CANCELLED AND ALL MONEY RETURNED TO INVESTORS/COOP MEMBERS.
ThE AIM WAS A POWER STATION HQ - a community owned space where art and social impact come together - for community to think, meet, plan and make a just and resilient place together.
The POWER STATION has been growing out of a terrace house in a street in Walthamstow, London that has become the locus for action and storytelling.
During our Bank Job - a community heist on the financial system - we operated out of a former high street bank that became the ‘rebel bank.’ In this time we established our CIC (Community Interest Company) Optimistic Foundation.
Losing the bank on Christmas day 2019 after a campaign to stay and secure the space forced us to contract rapidly and work from home. The POWER STATION emerged from lockdown - looking again at this home place and thinking what can we do from here to address combined economic/energy and climate crises?
We’ve been working hard and the POWER STATION is growing with first solar installations on street and on local schools happening this summer but there is a lot more to do! Our team is increasing, our operations and plans becoming more ambitious.
The chance to secure a rare site on this street - a former dairy and garage lodged between the rows of terrace houses has come up - to turn into POWER STATION HQ and a community owned hub of art and culture led community action and empowerment.
We have to act fast and secure enough money to make a deal with the owner.
And so we have launched a COMMUNITY SHARE OFFER.
All information is on the crowdfunder site hosting the community share offer.
