A Grassroots Green Print - can we help kickstart a multi-billion pound energy revolution?
Can a small group of dedicated people help to kickstart a multi-billion pound renewable energy revolution that puts people and communities at its heart?
We've spent much of the day rewriting our crowdfunding text. Trying to get to the essence of the project.
To do that we have gone back to the very basic idea at the heart of the project.
This question of belief is right at the heart of everything.
We need hope in this time of difficulty, but we know our hopes must be pinned to things that are real.
We believe in the power of what we're doing. We believe in the power of story and the power of imagination…
And, we believe that only through dedicated action can things begin to change - this is why we've thrown everything we have into this project.
While I'm at it, we believe we can win this, and that we have no other choice than to try with everything we have.
Here's a few words from our page, which may be familiar to you:
★★ We just got tired of waiting for the government to take action and responsibility for the crisis which is threatening life itself.. and the bills shooting up!
★★ We felt they weren’t taking the future of the planet seriously – and it suddenly dawned on us: if we keep waiting for the politicians to actually do something, it’s just going to get too late – we’ll go beyond the tipping point the experts are warning against…
★★ And we saw too that the energy markets had gone totally crazy – and according to the government themselves, there were 27% of people in our own borough of London who were in “energy poverty”
In fact the charity Friends of the Earth estimate that one in five households will be in fuel poverty this year in England and Wales!
THE GREEN PRINT
EVERY STREET POWER STATION
We believe that every viable building should become a Power Station, it should be insulated, it should be powered by locally owned renewables. This may sound Utopian - but only because tabloids and fossil dominated politicians tell us it's impossible.
We also believe that in the Green Print, no one gets left behind. It's a vision of inclusion. And that's why we are very proud to be collaborating with some amazing organisations in our local area.
We know that Power Station has the eye of the shadow Energy minister - and that if our Power Station continues to capture the public imagination, it stands a great chance of being used as a demonstrator vision for what must happen everywhere. So we go back to the beginning...
